Police deployed in Bavaria amid report of explosion
Reuters had initially reported that the explosion happened outside a reception centre for refugees in Zirndorf, a western suburb of Nuremberg in northern Bavaria. A suitcase bomb has exploded near a migration office on the outskirts of Nuremberg, in Germany, today.
The “bomb” reportedly exploded around 200 metres from the building’s reception area.
German broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk reported that a suitcase filled with aerosols was detonated.
It is unknown whether there were any casualties from the explosion.
Police said they found a burning suitcase and quickly extinguished it. “No one was reported injured”, police added. Last Friday, a teenager shot and killed nine people in Munich.
German news magazine Focus claimed that people fled the scene, citing eye witnesses.
The attack comes two days after a Syrian refugee blew himself up after being turned away from an open-air music festival.
Earlier the same day, a 21-year-old Syrian refugee launched an attack in the town of Reutlingen, killing a pregnant woman with a machete and injuring several others.
Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, has faced a storm of criticism over her “open door” refugee policy, which brought more than one million asylum seekers to Germany previous year.
