Police hunt for Goulburn prison escapee
Wiles was picked up by Traffic and Highway Patrol officers on Five Islands Road in Unanderra just after 5pm on Thursday.
Sydney City duty officer Inspector Stewart Leggat says police are looking at south-west Sydney locations that may be linked to Chahine.
Two women who were in the vehicle have also been arrested.
Wiles was taken to Wollongong police station and charged with escaping lawful custody.
The inmate had organised for a black Holden Commodore to be waiting on the outside when he made his bold dash for freedom, the authorities revealed.
It is unknown whether the vehicle he was found in was the same auto.
A prisoner who escaped from Goulburn jail earlier this week has appeared in court, where his lawyer indicated he is likely to plead guilty over the getaway.
Wiles was serving a total 18-month sentence for possessing a mobile phone/SIM as an inmate, shoplifting, driving whilst disqualified and intimidating a police officer.
“It was a black Commodore that’s picked him up”.
Mr Elliott said the Facebook account may not be run by Wiles, but his department is investigating.
Wiles was reported missing to local police, who are now searching for him.
Opposition Leader Luke Foley said Wednesday’s incident was the fourth break-out statewide since Mr Elliott took on the portfolio in April.
Wiles posted to Facebook two days before he escaped.
‘I didn’t even know he had a new girlfriend, ‘ she said – until she saw his scantily-dressed Facebook posts this week. “The way that he has been able to escape, or just the fact that he is so stupid that he has thrown his life away”, Mr Elliott said.
Watts was charged with aiding an inmate to escape lawful custody.
Since the 25-year-old’s escape, NSW Minister for Corrections David Elliott has fast-tracked the introduction of a whole-body scanner, promised weeks ago as part of a wider crackdown on mobile phones in NSW prisons, saying the scanner would be put in place on Thursday. He’s believed to have got off the bus at Central Station and hasn’t been seen since.
“What’s happened in the past 24 hours is unacceptable…we need to make sure this doesn’t happen”.
His 12-month non-parole period was due to expire in July 2016.
He is expected to appear in court on Friday.
Beau Wiles, 25, and Ali Hussein Chahine, 33, both escaped in seperate incidents.
The court was told the DPP was considering transferring the case to the District court where they could face a longer prison sentence.
Mr Chahine was appearing in the District Court for breaching his bail on drug supply charges.
“Corrective Services Minister David Elliott is single-handedly solving the overcrowding crisis in NSW prisons by letting inmates stroll out the front gate”, he said.
