Police ID kayaker missing in Hudson River
A New York City man, who was kayaking with his girlfriend in the Hudson River off Staatsburg Saturday morning, remained missing by evening after their vessel capsized near Mills Mansion.
Annie Lennox with daughter Tali at the artist’s recent exhibition in New York Captain John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s office said: “We believe that alcohol may have played a role”, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported. As of 5:30 pm, August 8, 2015, Mr. Jones has not been located, and the search is expected to be suspended sometime tonight.
Though the search efforts resumed Sunday, the current was apparently still strong, and there’s a very real chance that Ian could have drowned since the couple was not wearing life jackets.
Fruchtmann was not injured as a result of the capsizing, Watterson said, nor was she taken to a hospital. Watterson maintained they are doing everything they can to find him.
“The Hudson can have incredible undercurrents which makes it hard for even the strongest of swimmers”.
Ian Jones is described as a white male with short, dark brown hair.
A spokesman for the Eurythmics singer said earlier today that he had just heard about the accident and was trying to get more information.
Vincent Viafore, 46, disappeared during an April 19 kayaking trip with his fiancée Angelika Graswald, 35. But prosecutors say she admitted tampering with his kayak to cause his death.
