Police Identify Man Killed In Tuesday Night Drive-By Shooting
A man caught in a Waco supermarket with $80 worth of beef brisket he was suspected of stealing has died of wounds from when he was shot by police.
Hughes then became more combative, at which time the other officer discharged his firearm.
His body has been set to Dallas for an autopsy.
Dymonique Anderson, 24, was found just after 8:20 p.m. Tuesday lying on the ground near the intersection of North 10th Street and Colcord Avenue. Police Sgt. says the person had been detained in a small safety room on the retailer when he drew a knife on a retailer safety specialist.
Randall Lance Hughes, 48, of Waco, was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace W.H.
They first retreated and then both attempted to use their Tasers to subdue the man, but the stun guns “did not have an effect”, Swanton said.
He said he heard three shots and when he turned to look, he saw two police officers standing over a man who appeared to have been shot.
Hughes was struck twice in the upper torso, he added.
A female officer pulled out a Taser as a male officer pulled out his handgun, Swanton said, and at one point the two scuffled with Hughes.
The suspect is listed in critical condition at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center.
Officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty and a criminal and internal investigation.
