Police investigate after person films cops, then shows gun
“The crime he committed was carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, he has a prior conviction for the same offense which makes this into a felony”, Beck said.
Jamie McBride, director of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, a union organization which supports police, also shared his feelings on the video.
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck today announced the arrest of a “secondary suspect” and the expected imminent surrender of a “primary” suspect in the posting of a video on social media that was initially viewed as a threat to police.
A video posted to Instagram showing a person brandishing a gun while watching a Los Angeles police officer was apparently posted to social media by a member of a ’90s rap group that was trying to ignite a comeback, police said Tuesday.
The video, posted to photo-sharing site Instagram, appears to be shot from inside a vehicle parked directly behind a patrol auto, according to a statement from the LAPD.
“Of course we’ll look into this”, Beck said.
Following an investigation, detectives determined that the video was made by a rap group popular in the early 1990s and which is no longer in vogue.
Anyone with information is urged to call Robbery Homicide Detectives at 213-486-6850.
Police said in a statement Tuesday that the video posted on Instagram was intended as entertainment and not a threat, but it has led to an investigation and at least one arrest.
“It’s completely frightening”, an unidentified woman described as the wife of an officer told CBS2, with only her silhouette shown on camera.
The shattered window made the two LAPD officers think they were under fire at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the Van Nuys area, LAPD officials told the Los Angeles Times.
“They just want to do their job and yet all this hatred is coming at them”, she added.
