Police investigate alleged Facebook threat made by Kansas officer
The police chief of Overland Park, Kansas, has confirmed that one of his officers left a message on a Dallas woman’s Facebook page, threatening her 5-year-old daughter.
He wrote: “We’ll see how much her life matters soon”. “Better hold her close tonight, it’ll be the last time”.
The comment was made from the officer’s personal Facebook account on photos of the woman’s daughter she had posted in 2014. “We’re already on edge, so why would you do that?”
Overland Park police said possible disciplinary action for inappropriate behavior by staff members includes several steps including termination of employment. “Overland Park has terminated the officer, effective immediately”, the statement read.
With the photo of she and her daughter posted to her Facebook profile for the last two years, Williams said she has no idea how or why Wilson found her on social media.
Williams says she doesn’t know anyone from Overland Park.
The Texas woman says she has no ties to Kansas and can’t figure out why this man targeted her. “India is my heart”, Williams said. When she clicked on it, she said, she saw that it was from an officer some 500 miles away. Not all of them are like that. Not my child, she’s all I have.
Donchez said he wanted to publicly apologize to those affected by his officer’s personal actions.
But just because the officer doesn’t work as an Overland Park cop anymore, doesn’t necessarily mean Williams feels any safer.
The comment was written by an individual operating under the name Rodney Lee Wilson. “I will continue to hold the employees of the Overland Park Police Department accountable for (their) actions on and off duty”.
The investigation determined that the officer was, in fact, the person who made the controversial comment, and the department fired him immediately on Friday, according to reports. “Not all of them are like that”, she told WFAF.
