THE newly elected mayor of Alaska’s capital city has been found dead in his home.
“There’s no sign of forced entry at the residence and we don’t have anything indication anyone else in Juneau is in any danger”, she said.
An attack is “one of the possibilities out there, but there’s others that could have happened”, Police Chief Bryce Johnson told the Juneau Empire newspaper.
She says conclusions can quickly be reached in some cases that a death was natural or the result of foul play.
An addendum to the assertion confirmed in that Fisk’s adult son Ian had reported finding his father’s body at three:34 p.m. local time (7:34 p.m. EST).
Police say a cause of death has not been established but the results of the autopsy are expected within several days. Fisk had just taken office as the new mayor of Juneau, Alaska just weeks ago.
“JDP is aware of rumors that an assault occurred in connection with Fisk’s death”, the statement said.
Multiple outlets have taken the news, and while there have been a lot of rumors revolving around the possible cause of death, police are still investigating and have not come to a conclusion. Bob King, a veteran of Alaska politics who worked as press secretary to former Gov. Tony Knowles and as a fisheries aide to former U.S. Sen. The mayor also was not shot, Johnson said. He campaigned on a platform of diversifying Alaska’s economy, and was also known for his long history of working for settlements on land claims for Alaska Natives and First Nations in Canada.
As deputy mayor, Becker says she will assume the responsibilities as acting mayor in accordance with state law.
“I think this was a bad day for all of Juneau”, said Jill Ramiel, president of the Downtown Business Association.
