Police investigate report of pig’s head left outside mosque
An employee at a Philly mosque stumbled upon a gruesome discovery Monday morning: a severed pig’s head lying near the building’s front door, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The Koran describes pigs as “unclean” and prohibits Muslims from eating pork.
“A lot of people think it’s kryptonite to Muslims and it’s not”, said Kreidie, the Philadelphia mosque spokesman. “The lives of American Muslims have been placed in danger by the rising anti-Muslim hysteria in our nation and by the inflammatory rhetoric used by a number of national public figures”.
Surveillance video showed a red truck driving past the Al-Aqsa mosque in North Philadelphia and someone throwing an object out of the window on Sunday night, police said.
When asked whether they were investigating it as a possible hate incident or crime, a Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson said: “As of now, it’s under investigation with an unknown motive”.
A dismembered pig’s head was hurled at a Philadelphia mosque, in an incident which proves that anti-Muslim sentiment is on the rise in the United States. “If they get away doing something like that, they are going to up the ante”. Mayor-elect Jim Kenney said in a statement that the bigotry that desecrated Al-Aqsa mosque “has no place in Philadelphia”.
“I told my wife, ‘We are first American, then Afghans, ‘ so this is our duty to protect this country”, Hahsy said.
When Mustafa Bashir, of Glenside, Montgomery County, arrived for evening prayer at Al-Aqsa on Monday, he didn’t know about the pig’s head. In a report released on November 24 the group listed at least 27 incidents where Muslims were targeted after the Paris attacks.
Kreidie said he reported the incident to local and federal authorities.

Hamad Hahsy came to Philadelphia 25 years ago from Afghanistan and said he has never faced discrimination as a Muslim in America, but knows he risks being perceived by some people in a negative way.
There have been other stories of severed pig heads being left at mosques.
