Police look into Okafor incident
Prior to the start of the Sixers road game against the Rockets, Keith Pompey of the Inquirer reported a similar incident that occurred in Philadelphia with Okafor and a fan.
A law enforcement source told CSNPhilly that a gun magazine was found near the scene of the altercation and submitted for analysis. You already heard about him getting into a street fight over someone yelling the facts, “The 76ers suck”. The law enforcement source said the investigation is ongoing. Moments later, he punches possibly the same man and knocks him down. I think the guy was just talking s–.
Officer James Kenneally said police responded to reports of a fight outside the nightclub on Wednesday but no one was there by the time officers arrived.
In a video obtained and published by TMZ.com, Okafor is seen shouting at several individuals before shoving a man to the ground.
The alleged victim told police that he sustained a cut above the eye that required stitches after being struck in the face with a closed first.
No charges have been filed, but the potential for a lawsuit can not be understated.
The Inquirer continued to state, “There is no known report of the incident and Okafor declined to address it, according to the Inquirer report”.
“It was definitely dumb on my part”, Okafor said Friday of the incident.
“The embarrassment of what I did because that’s not who I am”, Okafor added. [I am] still dealing with the league and the team. I’m not happy about it at all.
TMZ Sports claims the video shows Okafor and some friends getting into a confrontation with a small group of people outside Storyville on Exeter Street after the game. People we’re coming at me and making fun of us for losing. I did the dumb thing and reacted to it. I’ll never handle it like that again. He said he told 76ers coach Brett Brown about what happened during the team’s plane ride to Houston.
