Police may change tactics at protests after Dallas shooting
The 32-year-old school cafeteria supervisor told officers during a traffic stop that he had a gun in the auto and a permit to use it, and one of them shot him when he reached for his wallet, according to his girlfriend, who live-streamed video of the immediate aftermath on Facebook.
This was just one of several protests that went on across the country over the weekend, after the shootings of Castile and Alton Sterling, who was gunned down by police in Baton Rouge on Tuesday.
Diamond also addressed the question of what took place prior to the beginning of the livestream, which began just after Philando was shot by the officer.
According to the audio obtained by KARE 11, the police officer, Jeronimo Yanez, who stopped Castile initially told the dispatcher that he was going to stop the auto because he “had reason to pull it over”.
He declined to elaborate on how Castile displayed the weapon or what led up to the deadly traffic stop. Police in Minnesota say a man has been taken to a hospital in unknown condition after being shot by an officer while inside a vehicle with a woman and a child.
She rounds off the post by naming a number of high profile victims of police brutality, including Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland and Sean Bell. But the BCA had sent out a press release earlier this week saying St. Anthony police were investigating a gas station robbery that occurred in nearby Lauderdale on July 2. The protesters have been undeterred by heightened safety concerns after a gunman killed five police officers during a demonstration in Dallas on Thursday.
A Dallas police officer receivers flowers at a roadblock outside their headquarters, Saturday, July 9, 2016, in Dallas. “It doesn’t show us everything”, said David Klinger, a former Los Angeles police officer and a criminology and criminal justice professor at the University of Missouri at St. Louis. She said Castile was having difficulty getting to his wallet and that his gun was in a holster in his trousers. The officer then fired at least four shots at Castile, continuing to aim the gun at his body as he bled out in the driver’s seat. “I always thought the NRA was not concerned about me”.
A clearly distraught person who appears to be a police officer stands at the car’s window, tells her to keep her hands up and says: “I told him not to reach for it”.
When he was pulled over on that fateful day, it’s likely Castile didn’t think much of it.
Attorney Thomas Kelly said he is “rather restricted” until the Saint Antony Police Department, Officer’s Yanez’ employer, and the Minnesota Bureau of Crime Apprehension sign off on the investigation. “I told him to get his hands up”. “The next march in Dallas, I guarantee they’re going to have sniper teams all along the march, cops with high-powered rifles, to see if anyone is going to be a copycat”, Lally said.
During the live stream, the girlfriend said the “police just shot my boyfriend for no apparent reason”, as reported by Breitbart News.
