Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller to face ethics committee
Mr Bleijie claimed Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had abandoned Ms Miller, Acting Premier Jackie Trad had disowned her and the police union despised her.
But questions about Ms Miller have dominated all proceedings.
Liberal National Party MP Tarnya Smith tried to pass a motion of no confidence in the police minister, but it was destined to fail with government and opposition numbers on the committee tied up.
The state parliament’s Speaker, Peter Wellington, who agreed to refer Miller for investigation, said he had confidence in the ability of the ethics committee to investigate the matter.
A Queensland Parliament estimates hearing was adjourned only 15 minutes after it began when the Opposition hit Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller with a torrent of questions about her accountability.
“Jo-Ann Miller has run out of chances”.
“I can tell you that as one of my duties as police minister, there is nothing that I love more than going to the dog squad at Oxley and seeing those new pups that have been born”, she said.
“I do think it interferes, because obviously this is the basis of the questioning about the matters that are now before the Ethics Committee”.
But while she escaped unscathed this time, she will inevitability face the music when she is hauled before the Ethics Committee. “We should just let the Ethics Committee get on with its job”.
Shadow transport spokesman Scott Emerson said he believed that is what Queenslanders wanted.
The credibility of Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has been questioned after it was revealed that her government had formed a “protection racket” so that embattled Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller wouldn’t have to answer questions about allegations she signed false documents.
“We are determined to make sure we keep the pressure on this government, over these issues of integrity, openness and accountability”, he said.
“This is nothing more than a protection racket for a Police Minister who is clearly not performing”.
But perhaps the message was slowly seeping in.
Ms Trad was asked at least seven times if she supported Ms Miller on Wednesday, but could only say Ms Miller was working hard preparing for budget estimates hearings.
