Police open fire on vehicle at Tour de France
Luc Poignant, a spokesman for the SGP police union, said the two occupants of the vehicle fled after coming under fire in the Place de la Concorde where cyclists make their final round to end the race.
As thousands of people gather in Paris today, July 26 to await Tour de France cyclists police were on the hunt for a auto and its owner that crashed through the barricade on Place de la Concorde.
When stopped by the police, the driver refused to obey orders and proceeded instead to drive toward police officers in the Place de la Concorde who were placing a safety barricade for the Tour de France bicycle race.
An official said it was not terror related and no-one was injured. Paris has been on edge since double attacks in January by Islamic extremists on the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and a Kosher grocery killed 20 people, including the three attackers. No one was hurt, and police are searching for the vehicle, he said.
They are due to finish at Place de la Concorde at about 6pm. They asked not to be identified by name because the investigation was ongoing.
