Police Probe Johnny Manziel Over ‘Possible Assault’ On Ex-Girlfriend
While Jimmy Haslam kept the door ajar earlier this week that Johnny Manziel could return to the Browns, Manziel continues to keep his name in the news-and not in a positive light.
Manziel later tweeted that “J & I are good” and thanks those who “stopped to check on us and call the police”.
However, the woman told officers she was concerned about Manziel’s welfare. The woman raised concerns about her ex-boyfriend’s well-being.
The Dallas Police Department has been notified by the Fort Worth Police Department of a possible offense that may have occurred within the Dallas city limits.
Per Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer, the Browns declined to comment on the police report.
In a dash-cam video, Crowley told police, “I’m in fear for my life”, adding Manziel “hit me a couple of times”.
This is the second time Manziel has been investigated by police after an argument with his now ex-girlfriend. That ex-boyfriend was later identified as Manziel.
The NFL investigated the circumstances around the incident and announced back in November that Manziel would not be disciplined. They drove to the location and met with Manziel’s ex, Colleen Crowley, who was uncooperative. Manziel, a Texas native, told the Star-Telegram before the 2014 draft that he grew up a Cowboys fan and it’d be a “folk tale” if they drafted him.
After a thorough investigation, the National Football League cleared Manziel of domestic violence in the incident. He has never publicly disclosed why he was admitted to facility. With new head coach Hue Jackson taking over, and already being on the fence abut Manziel, the lifeline has likely come to an end. The following day, he was demoted to third-string quarterback for the next game. “When additional information becomes available it will be released as appropriate, ” they said, via Cleveland.com.
“I think Johnny made progress on the field a year ago”.
“I appreciate the NFL’s diligence and discretion in reviewing a situation that was both personal and embarrassing”, Manziel said.
If they want to release Manziel, the earliest they can do so is February 8, the day after the Super Bowl, when the NFL’s waiver system begins. And his two-year stint with the team has been rocky at best.
