Police Release 911 Call Made By Suspect In 2 Mississippi Murders
Although a clear motive for the Delta State shooting has yet to be determined, police believe Lamb may have been involved in another homicide on Monday, about 300 miles from the university shooting, in the town of Gautier.
Fellow teacher Shannon Lamb is accused of killing Schmidt on Monday at Delta State.
In a 911 call Monday, Lamb told police he had shot Prentiss and that officers needed to get over to their house.
Law enforcement said when police stopped Lamb’s auto , he jumped from the vehicle and ran.
A student who praised Lamb, Brandon Beavers, said the professor also seemed agitated and jittery, “like there was something wrong with him”. He left his auto running in the driveway. When they spoke to him, he assured them “he wasn’t going to jail”. He said Lamb made the fateful call to the emergency dispatcher about killing his girlfriend sometime after that.
“I shot my wife last night”, said the alleged killer on a 911 call. The officers then heard one gunshot, Bingham said, and found Lamb with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
LaForge said Lamb was teaching two online classes this semester. And the school had planned to celebrate its 90th anniversary Tuesday – some of the festivities were even supposed to be in Jobe Hall where the shooting happened – but LaForge said that event will be rescheduled.
The letter found in Amy Prentiss’ home in Gautier, Mississippi.
According to Gautier investigators, their phone records show Lamb was in the northern part of the state near the college when he reached out to the police department.
Nicole Anslover, who studied in the history department at Kansas with Schmidt, said that he exuded “the enthusiasm he had for it and the subject he was writing about and trying to help people see those early conflicts with objectivity and fresh eyes”. He instructed authorities to “take care of her [Prentiss]”.
Ms Prentiss was divorced from her husband 15 years ago but they remained friends and had a daughter who is now 19. He noted that because Abigail was only 17 when she began singing there, her mother had to accompany her. We were cutting up and throwing one-liners at each other.
Mr Schmidt directed the first-year seminar programme and specialised in Native American and colonial history.
Delta State is a public university with more than 4,000 students on campus. He was married and had three young children.
Classes were canceled there Tuesday, and a vigil was slated for the night, University President William LaForge said.
We welcome strong opinions and criticism of our work, but we don’t want comments to become bogged down with discussions of our policies and we will moderate accordingly.
