Police release video they say shows Ferguson shooting suspect Tyrone Harris
The father of a black 18-year-old who was shot by plainclothes police officers in Ferguson during protests to mark the anniversary of Michael Brown’s death says he expects his son to survive.
Joh Belmar, the St. Louis County Police Chief, openly stated that the presence of Oath Keepers with camouflage bulletproof vests with rifles and pistols on West Florissant Avenue was highly unnecessary.
“He was running for his… life because someone was shooting at him”, Tyrone Harris, Sr. said in a telephone interview from his St. Louis-area home before the video was released.
John Karriman, a representative of the group who teaches at the Missouri Southern State University police academy, said there were five armed Oath Keepers at the Monday night protests and a considerably larger number of unarmed members stationed nearby to try to help keep the peace. While exchanging gunfire, one of the suspects ran across a parking lot in the area and was spotted by St. Louis County Police detectives, who were in an unmarked police van.
Harris is charged with ten additional felonies including 1st degree assault on law enforcement officers.
Members of an armed militia group patrolling the streets of Ferguson have drawn criticism from the county police chief overseeing security in the St. Louis suburb. The man holding a handgun, they say, is 18-year-old Tyrone Harris.

On Tuesday, police braced for more protests in Ferguson while some residents expressed frustration over what they see as a persistent cycle of violence and bias.
Protesters have thrown rocks and empty water bottles at police since Monday night till early Tuesday morning, while police used pepper spray to force back crowds, according to Xinhua reporters at the scene.
St. Louis County spokesman Cordell Whitlock said the county had no comment on the timing of the charges or why they decided to pursue them, saying they were “all pending legal matters”.
Protests also spilled outside of Ferguson earlier Monday.
County Executive Steve Stenger said the state of emergency could be lifted as soon as Wednesday, depending upon how Tuesday night unfolded.
Harris survived the officer involved shooting and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. More arrests followed before protests and the police presence began to diminish at 1 a.m. Tuesday.
“What did I do?” as police took her away in handcuffs. Police said they made no arrests.
