Police Respond to Gunman at North Carolina Church

Heidi Warren said when deputies arrived, they found one man inside Maple Grove Baptist Church.

The suspect’s identity is not known at this time.

Bill Miller from the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office confirms that shots were fired at Maple Grove Baptist Church in Haywood County on Wednesday at 3:12 p.m.

Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and law enforcement.

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting of a man by law enforcement officers in western North Carolina near Canton.

Deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a church in Haywood County, according to WHNS.

“He was secured and being treated by EMS”, Warren said of the man after the stand-off. Warren would not say how many officers fired their weapons.

“Usually we have a lady who cleans the church on Wednesdays but the electricity was out so she wasn’t there”, Carlisle said.

The shooting occurred outside the church.

The shooter received medical treatment following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement.
