Police search for shooter in Cumberland County
They say he was pulled over in response to the Tennessee shooting on HWY 61 south of Burkesville where he exchanged fire with an officer and escaped on foot.
Kentucky State Police spokesman Billy Gregory said authorities are searching for Floyd Ray Cook, who fled into the countryside along the border of the two states.
Cumberland County police told News 2 he was spotted in their area on Sunday at around noon, but was unable to be captured.
The Algood officer, Ahscari Valencia was shot during a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.
Around 7 p.m. Sunday, NewsChannel 5’s crew on scene heard a loud boom near the house and also heard authorities call out, “Floyd Cook, come out of the house with your hands up!” The officer was hit in the stomach but was wearing a bullet-proof vest and is said to be in good condition. The officer has since been released.
Cook was wanted on felony warrants out of Kentucky as well as in connection to the shooting of an officer in Algood. It has a blue Kentucky Wildcats license plate on the front and a Kentucky tag number 091HCS. He is considered armed and risky and should not be approached.
