Police seek truck that killed Marine who stopped to help disabled vehicle
Police are looking for the driver of a truck that struck and killed a man who had pulled over to help a disabled vehicle in Tuesday night’s rain.
Col. Benjamin Watson, commander of the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington, said Camp David guard Cpl.
Ferrell was stationed at the Naval Support Facility in Thurmont, Maryland. William Ferrell, 21, of North Carolina around 10:50 p.m. on northbound Route 15 near Auburn Road, WBAL reported.
Ferrell was hit by a tractor trailer while he was on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle, police said, should have “obvious damage” to the right side of the truck and or the trailer it was hauling. Part of the roadway was closed for roughly four hours, as police were on the scene and cleanup was underway.
Witnesses told police that the truck driver initially stopped approximately 100 yards from the accident scene.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have information about the hit-and-run vehicle or driver is asked to call Maryland State Police in Frederick at 301-600-4151.
