Police Shoot Suspect in Brooklyn Cellphone Store Robbery, Sources Say
That suspect was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
One other suspect was apprehended without further incident and a third suspect has not been apprehended at this time.
Police have charged the three men involved in a Brooklyn cellphone store robbery that ended with cops shooting and wounding one of the thieves, officials said.
Armed with the description of the suspects’ vehicle, a second NYPD patrol auto caught up with them near the intersection of East 14th Street and Avenue O, police said.
On Thursday, January 28, 2016, at approximately 11:08AM, police responded to a commercial robbery at a Verizon Store located at 418 Avenue P, within confines of the 66 Precinct.
One witness, Joe Zar, described the chaos after the shooting. I heard four shots. “I’m very shaken. I had my daughter in the house”.
“I didn’t see it, but just the fact that it happened is shocking”. Soon thereafter, several police cars tried pulling over the getaway auto, a Jeep Cherokee.
The store owner flagged down police, who chased the vehicle for roughly 12 blocks.
The men ordered all store employees to a back room and stole an undetermined number of cell phones, then fled in a black Jeep, according to a police news release.
Police recovered two guns, as well as a bag with a police-band radio and a stun gun inside, officials said.
Police Officer Thomas Redmond, 27, a six-year veteran of the NYPD, opened fire when McIver pulled a firearm, hitting him twice, cops said. Mciver showed a gun, police say. The police followed, and one officer fired multiple rounds, striking one of the men.
