Police take action against drink driving
A month-long campaign starts today as police say they want to prevent the destruction and distress caused by motorists who drive after drinking or taking drugs.
“We will also be generally stopping motorists during this campaign and carrying out tests”.
Drivers aged under 25 are still proportionately more likely to fail the road-side breath-test for drink-driving.

Six people were also arrested for driving whilst under the influence of drugs.
Hampshire Constabulary’s road safety lead, Sergeant Rob Heard, is holding public events throughout December to raise and reinforce awareness of road safety advice ahead of Christmas.

One of the messages the force is keen to stress is that there is no fool proof way of calculating how much you can drink and remain under the limit or knowing how much an individual person can drink and still drive safely. “I hope this will deter anyone from risking their life and others”.
In September 2016, Dorset Police’s No Excuse team launched Operation Dragoon.
“Our roads policing officers regularly see the outcome. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and your actions could be saving lives at the festive period and throughout the year”. And don’t accept a lift from a driver who you know has drunk alcohol or taken drugs. This will continue throughout any criminal proceedings and after their license is returned.
“Once again we will be using drug-testing kits alongside standard kits for alcohol, which means we are better equipped than ever to identify those who take this very risky risk”.
The initiative will feature high visibility and covert patrols aimed at targeting drink and drug drivers. “It’s not worth the risk”.
