Policeman, civilian killed in north Kashmir militant attack
Police said that the unidentified gunmen attacked two police cops at Tujjar village, eight kilometers away from Sopore town.
Suspected rebels opened fire at a police post in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir on Tuesday, killing a police constable and a civilian, authorities said.
After a terrorist attack in May that killed civilians, Sopore again fell prey to militant attack. He was shifted to a hospital in Sopore town where he succumbed to injuries, the officer said.
This is the second attack on a police post in Jammu and Kashmir this month.
The police constable was guarding the shrine of Sultan-ul Arifin Makhdoom, the officer said.
In occupied Kashmir, a policeman and a civilian were killed in an attack in Baramulla district, today.
Soon after the incident, heavy contingent of army, CRPF and SOG have cordoned off the whole area and launched massive hunt to nab the attackers. So far no militant outfit has claimed the responsibility for the attack. Policemen fear resurgence of militancy in North Kashmir as well.
