Political Group Reacts To Bayelsa Election
In a statement, “the Restoration Campaign Organization called on Bayelsans, particularly business/shop owners to beware of these protests, as the protesters have specific instructions to unleash wanton violence and mayhem on the streets of Yenagoa, under the guise of asking INEC to make haste to declare their candidate as the victor of the December 5 governorship election”.
INEC reps said “glaring cases of electoral malpractices characterized by ballot snatching and thuggery”.
The leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Asari-Dokubo has warned the Federal Government not to interfere with the upcoming supplementary governorship elections in Bayelsa state.
Fourteen political parties which participated in last Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa state have condemned the role played by military personnel in the election. The Commission announced that the polls shall be continued in some local governments including Southern Ijaw Local Government Area on December 6, 2015.
A date will be announced for the new election.
According to him, “Inconclusive election is an indication of lack or seriousness and economic wastage on the part of INEC and it is not acceptable”.
Sources also said said that, the REC had made a decision to go underground following threats to his life by some persons, who are not comfortable with the cancellation of the Southern Ijaw local Government election that has rendered the whole election inconclusive.
But Kpagih remained unmoved insisting that the action of INEC was within the ambience of the laws of the land and in fulfilment of the commission’s mandate to conduct a credible election. “We are concerned about what will happen to the conduct of nationwide general elections if the current leadership at the commission is unable to conclusively conduct election in just one state over the course of three days”.
