Political Prediction Market: Sanders (slowly) gains on Clinton
Hillary Clinton is sharpening her attacks on Bernie Sanders – and even her criticism of the Obama administration – as polls show her losing ground to her closest primary rival in key states.
A Quinnipiac University poll had Sanders leading by five percentage points in Iowa, 49 percent to 44 percent.
Earlier on Tuesday, a Quinnipiac poll showed Sanders leading Clinton for the first time in the Hawkeye state.
Trump said he doesn’t want to be a “wise guy”, but he said Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum – the past two Iowa Caucus victors – didn’t wind up in the White House.
Clinton added that she is proud of President Barack Obama for creating the executive orders that would increase background checks for new gun sales and enforcement of current gun laws because “like me he has met too many people who have lost their children, their spouses, their parents”.
The ad caps off a hard day for the Clinton campaign, where a trio of national and early state polls found numbers headed in Sanders direction.
“Of course she would love to have Elizabeth’s support”, Sen.
For Clinton, then, attacking single-payer is a politically risky proposition – particularly when her hold on the Democratic electorate appears increasingly tenuous.
Campaign trail rhetoric from both Clinton and Sanders has reflected this tightening in the race.
“This is a massive vote in favor of Bernie Sanders, showing that grassroots progressives across the country are excited and inspired by his message and track record of standing up to big money and corporate interests to reclaim our democracy for the American people”, said Sheyman.
In addition to trying to highlight differences between herself and Sanders, Clinton repeated the general tenants of her campaign: advocating for investment in infrastructure, renewable energy and social issues including healthcare, women’s and workers’ rights and education. Well, I think I will do the best job of making sure we don’t let a Donald Trump or a Ted Cruz become the next president – Why so many polls show Bernie sanders doing better against Donald Trump than you.
The Clinton campaign announced Eric Holder’s support in a statement to the Associated Press. But the Clinton campaign’s case against Sanders’ proposal isn’t that it’s unfeasible.
“Smart would be to say: ‘I want to do well.’ That way, if I come in second, everyone’s going to say: ‘Oh, he did well.’ I don’t want to do that”. New Hampshire is a complicated state politically, a libertarian-leaning bastion in liberal New England, but Sanders fits the role of a rough, charismatic party outsider that New Hampshirites have a history of supporting, so it’s not such a surprise that Sanders is wooing them this time around. Tad Devine, the senior Sanders strategist, said that Warren’s support would be “more than welcome” but he didn’t know what she would do.
