Pope calls for new work of mercy: Care for environment
The works of mercy, as taught by the Catholic Church, are divided into corporal and spiritual. He quoted frequently from that encyclical in his message Thursday.
Finally, he proposed that caring for the environment be added as a “complement” to the seven spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Yet it wasn’t until a year ago that the Catholic Church formally joined the initiative, with a letter from Francis establishing it.
The papal message takes as fact questionable climate change extremism as did his encyclical Laudato Si released in June 2015.
But the pope said in his message that the world has new forms of poverty, and new forms of mercy are needed to address them.
The pope also cited the latest research to bolster his religious exhortation, noting that global warming has continued. “This is leading to even more severe droughts, floods, fires, and extreme weather events”. “The world’s poor, though least responsible for climate change, are most vulnerable and already suffering its impact”, he said.
Pope Francis noted how physicians may feel “trepidation and awe” when faced with the vast road of scientific study and discovery still to be made, and that the Magisterium of the Church affirms the importance of scientific research in the protection of human life.
“Let us repent of the harm we are doing to our common home”, he added. “Examining our consciences, repentance and confession to our Father who is rich in mercy lead to a firm objective of amendment”, the Pope says, “must translate into concrete ways of thinking and acting that are more respectful of creation”. Then that confession should lead to concrete changes in Catholics’ daily behavior, no matter how small: Pope Francis suggests turning off lights to avoid wasting energy, taking care not to cook more food than necessary and using public transportation or carpooling to cut down on gasoline use.
Care of creation should also contribute “to shaping the culture and society in which we live”, Pope Francis said, adding that economics, politics, society and culture “cannot be dominated by thinking only of the short-term and immediate financial or electoral gains”.
Pope Francis is escorted under an umbrella during a thunderstorm at the end of his general audience, in St.Peter’s Square, at the Vatican, Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016.
This will allow Francis and his dream team of world leaders to convince the masses only the anti-Christ can save humanity, paving the way for a satanic New World Order under devil rule.
He tied environmental concerns to the growing global migrant crisis.
Human beings are the only creatures God created in his image and likeness, Father Cantalamessa said, but that affirmation can not be allowed to lead to “an indiscriminate dominion of human beings over the rest of creation with consequences that are easily imaginable and unfortunately already occurring”.
Presenting the pope’s message at a news conference September 1, Cardinal Peter Turkson, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said the day of prayer follows the example of the Orthodox Church, which initiated the prayer day in 1989.
