Pope Calls On Christians To Abolish Death Penalty
“No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith”.
A day after Donald Trump slammed Pope Francis for questioning his faith, the real estate mogul praised the pontiff as a “terrific person”. Trump responded by calling the Pope “a terrific person”.
The spokesman also reiterated Francis’ stance that he does not seek to weigh in on American politics. “The pope said what we well know, when we follow his teaching and his positions: that one mustn’t build walls, but bridges”, said a Vatican spokesperson on Vatican Radio on Friday, NBC News reported.
If the Pope or any religious leader injects himself into a political fray, it has to be understood that they have become part of the controversy. Again, that is acceptable.
But the billionaire said he did not take the pope’s remarks personally. “He has a lot of personality and I think he’s doing a very good job, he has a lot of energy”.
You can create a who’s who list of everyone Donald Trump has feuded with, Fox News, Megyn Kelly, Chris Wallace, President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Rosie O’Donnell, Roger Ailes, Rupert Murdoch, Univision, Mark Cuban, Jon Stewart, Cher, but the Pope?
Asked whether he would try to influence Catholics in how they vote in the presidential election, Francis said he “was not going to get involved in that” but then echoed his earlier criticism of Trump.
Last week, Pope Francis suggested Trump was “not Christian” for his comments about building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. “I think that he heard one side of the story, which is probably by the Mexican government”, Trump told CNN on Thursday. The Pope added that he will give Trump the benefit of the doubt because the Pontiff is not too sure of Trump’s intention and how he actually talked about building a wall. “I say only that this man is not a Christian if he has said things like that”.
Trump, a leading U.S. Republican presidential candidate, has said that if elected, he will build a wall along the Mexican border from Texas to California and expel 11 million people who are in the country illegally.
Do you know the number on trophy ISIS wants more than anything else is the Vatican?
While most of those interviewed said they respected the pope’s moral authority, Joe Ruggiero, 70, thought Francis sometimes “gets a little carried away” with what he characterized as a “basically socialist” point of view.
