Porsche 911 2016 facelift: new pics from Frankfurt
They will debut on the re-engineered model unveiled this week at the Frankfurt auto show. Although most of the changes are inside of the 911, a few exterior tweaks have happened too. Porsche is adamant the traditional flat-six character hasn’t been lost, and is keen to emphasize the 7,500rpm rev limit of the new engine.
The second-generation 911 Carrera will cost from £76,000 when it goes on sale in the United Kingdom in December and feature twin-turbo technology mated to a new 3.0-litre engine that will provide more power and better economy than the old 3.4 and 3.8-litre units. We can also see new alloy designs, fresh door handles and an updated engine cover with vertical louvers. This enhances the vehicle’s horsepower to 365 bhp, 20 bhp over the previous Carrera model.
The Carrera S receives the same engine but with modifications to boost power to 414bhp.
The turbocharged engines are expected to boost the efficiency of the new Porsche 911 with the Carreras promising to deliver mileages upwards of 38 miles per gallon and carbon emissions of 169 g/km. Torque for both turbo engines is up even more dramatically.
When was the last time a new 911 wasn’t cool?
Inside, you will notice the updated Porsche Communication Management (PCM) touchscreen infotainment system, now with Wi-Fi and Apple Carplay. This has four settings (Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual) and works in concert with Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system which is fitted to all models for the first time.
A new “Sport Response” button automatically builds pressure in the turbochargers, cues the most aggressive throttle mapping, and selects the optimal gear (PDK-equipped versions only) to trigger maximum acceleration for 20 seconds.
The 2016 Porsche 911 arrives on Canadian soil in the first quarter of 2016.
Other changes include a standard post-collision braking system, optional adaptive cruise control (with coasting), optional lane change assist and optional automatic speed control system.
