Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Confirmed for LA Auto Show Debut
Porsche has confirmed that it will launch a motorsport version of its Cayman GT4 at the forthcoming Los Angeles motor show.
Porsche is accepting orders for the Cayman GT4 Clubsport at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach or from Porsche Motorsport North America. Turns out, the German automaker is cranking up the heat with a track-only version.
The most important part of the racer is found under its hood and, despite not knowing exactly what this will be, expect a six-cylinder engine which will be working together with the double-clutch transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The lightweight suspension strut front axle system has been taken from the 911 GT3 Cup auto. Steel brakes are fitted all round – carbon-ceramics would be rather expensive to keep on top of – while there’s just the one seat, which comes fitted with a six-point harness.
For 2016, homologation is planned for race series such as the Continental Tire Sports vehicle Challenge™, the Porsche Club of America™, the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA™, the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada™, the Pirelli World Challenge™ and for other club-level meetings around the world.
However, don’t forget that the Porsche Cayman GT4 is a “driver’s car” and it is capable of a few pretty incredible performance, while having an aggressive appearance and a few internals borrowed from its larger brother, the 911 .
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport will use the same 3.8-litre flat-six engine as the GT4 road vehicle, with the same power output of 380bhp.
Porsche claims the Clubsport’s weight will come in at 2,866 pounds (1,300 kilograms).
Elsewhere, the GT4 Clubsport Cayman is relatively unchanged.
More details, including photos, will be revealed at the big event in Los Angeles on November 18.
