Porsche plans to build an all-electric car
The electric four-door, four-seater coupe provides a preview of the next Panamera due next year and shows how the current PHEV model could be evolved.
Porsche surprised many as it showcased its new electric sedan – Mission E. The Porsche Mission E is powered by a 600PS all-electric drive motor with a range of 500km while Porsche Turbo Charging recharges 80 per cent of the battery in just 15 minutes!
The company run by billionaire Elon Musk makes the Model S, which was lauded in reviews for its acceleration and handling. The dual motors are capable of generating 600 horsepower and laying down a zero to 60 time of just under 3.5 seconds. Porsche said that “Instruments are intuitively operated by eye-tracking and gesture control, some even via holograms – highly oriented toward the driver by automatically adjusting the displays to the driver’s position”.
There are now no official plans to put this beast into production any time soon, but like most concept vehicles, the Mission E is likely to inspire a future showroom model.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the electric vehicle also has an impressive set of electronic features. Using this 800-volt system also helps to keep the car’s weight down, thanks to lighter, smaller gauge wires.
A writer for auto news website Jalopnik says, “If that’s true – and my skeptical side calls it a big “if” – it’s a huge step for electric vehicle re-charging, making it nearly as fast and convenient as filling your tank with gas”. So far, the the Mission E is little more than a concept – “a sexy body on a drivetrain that may or may not be real and may or may not deliver the numbers cited”.
As the Frankfurt Motor Show develops, a few interesting cars are being unveiled. The design combines the features of the front end of a Porsche sweepback and is relative to the 918 Spyder and other Porsche race cars.
The Mission-E is all-wheel-drive and Porsche indicated that like so numerous brand’s models it would be suited for competition. Lightweight design with mix of aluminum, different steels, carbon fiber, ‘all in the right combination and in just the right place.’ With no transmission tunnel, extra cabin space.
