Possible explosive detonated in Richmond
Celli was arrested and booked into the Contra Costa County jail Sunday afternoon, police say, and taken into custody without incident, according to the station.
Residents were told to return to their homes in the evening.
The discovery followed a tip to authorities last Thursday that a Richmond resident (the city, not the neighborhood) had expressed a desire to harm Muslims, reports ABC 7. “The Richmond police SWAT team, joined by detectives, served a search warrant at the man’s house and found a possible explosive device”. Law enforcement said Celli’s statements attracted their attention, but they wouldn’t elaborate on the threats any more than that.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations was quick to classify Celli’s alleged plans as domestic terrorism, noting that the group is concerned with what it sees as heightened violent views toward Muslims as a result of “Islamophobic political rhetoric”.
Trump has been fanning the flame of anti-Muslim hysteria in the wake of the mass shootings in Paris and San Bernardino, California.
“Donald trumps on again I’m happy leaders okay but this guys a great point man”, Celli wrote on Facebook in October. In frequent Facebook posts, Celli railed against undocumented immigrants, Syrian refugees and Democrats.
