Possible postseason scenarios: If North Carolina beats Clemson, chaos ensues
The North Carolina Tar Heels vs Clemson Tigers game tonight on ABC Sports TV and Watch ESPN3 live streaming will crown a victor in the 2015 ACC Championship game. The Tigers are the number one ranked team in the nation in the College Football Playoff poll, and a win Saturday will lock them in the College Football Playoff and give them their first ACC title since 2011.
The win didn’t come without controversy. When the offense took the field for its opening series Saturday, however, it was Tyrone Crowder – a third-team All-ACC selection who started Clemson’s first nine games of the year at the position – who was back in the lineup alongside center Jay Guillermo and right tackle Joe Gore.
The Tar Heels appeared to recover the onside kick, but were called for being offside – although replays didn’t show any player in a blue jersey being offside – and had to kick again.
If UNC beats Clemson: The Tar Heels would be guaranteed at least a spot in a New Year’s 6 game. “They’ve got a rock that they can rely on, and I think he makes it extremely hard for a defense”. That said, I wouldn’t put Hood in the same class as Cook, as very few backs in the game today are even close. The over/under total for the game has been set at 67.5 points.
“It isn’t going to change”.
“We’ve got three top-10 teams in this league”, said Swinney, also referring to Florida State. Anybody else got that?
Saturday’s ACC Championship game was the 100th for Dabo Swinney as Clemson’s head coach. He’s returned two punts for touchdowns of 78 and 85 yards this season, and has seven for his career – one shy of matching the NCAA career record. “So you know, for both sides of the ball we’re going to have to play extremely well”.
But the Tar Heels return to the scene of their early-season crime on a 10-game winning streak, and this time stand to upend the No. 1 Clemson Tigers’ (12-0, 8-0 ACC) chances for the ACC Championship and a potential spot in one of the College Football Playoff semifinals.
“As a child you’re growing up, wanting to play”, Williams said. “We’re making history as we go”.
Ultimately, the Tar Heels were unable to contain a potent Clemson offense led by ACC Player of the Year and Heisman Trophy hopeful Deshaun Watson.
Redshirt freshman Greg Huegel will continue to kick field goals – he has made 16 consecutive 3-point kicks and is 10-for-10 outside Memorial Stadium – but kickoff man and last year’s placekicker Ammon Lakip will take over extra points, as Huegel has had five of those missed or blocked.
Fedora came to Chapel Hill in 2012 and has compiled a 32-18 record over four seasons entering Saturday’s ACC Championship Game.
He really doesnt have a weakness, Swinney said. “He went Superman on me”.
Star of the game: Watson passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more.
