Potter family history revealed on Pottermore
“The fascinating story of the Potter family, from the author herself, will enthral everyone interested in this world and shows just how J.K. Rowling’s writing remains at the heart of our new site”, Jurevics said. Linfred was a vague and absent-minded fellow whose Muggle neighbours often called upon his medicinal services…His reputation as a well-meaning eccentric served Linfred well, for behind closed doors he was able to continue the series of experiments that laid the foundation of the Potter family’s fortune.
Rowling wrote the Potters were not uncommon Muggles, which excluded the family from the so-called “Sacred Twenty-Eight” – wizard families that remained untainted by Muggle blood.
Okay adorable. He also invented skele-gro, which helped out his ancestor Harry regrow his bones in Chamber of Secrets. It came into the Potter family when Linfred’s eldest son, Hardwin, married a witch from Godric’s Hollow, Iolanthe Peverell, the granddaughter of Ignotus Peverell of The Tale of the Three Brothers.
But by far the most intriguing tidbit Rowling revealed was the origin of Harry’s invisibility cloak.
But they were already pretty old when they had James, and lived long enough to see him marry Lily Evans but not their grandson, Harry. (She’d inherited it from her grandfather).
The online Harry Potter bible, Pottermore, has been “newly reimagined” with an exciting overhaul that contains loads of brand new Potter information.
Rowling wrote a new story, tracing the boy wizard’s ancestry back to the 12th century wizard Linfred of Stinchcombe, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The new Pottermore site allows readers to access content in a totally magical way than when it was first launched in 2012. “The new site contains entertaining features, commentary and articles about the Harry Potter series and the wider Wizarding World”.
The full time writer will report on all Potter news, including updates about the forthcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, starring Eddie Redmayne.
