Power Take: Golden State can make legitimate run at 72 wins
Once the game started, it was lopsided and the Warriors alongside Stephen Curry proved to not only the Spurs but to the rest of the National Basketball Association that they are for real.
He played 28 minutes and didn’t set foot on the court in the fourth quarter, with Golden State in complete control.
If the Spurs aren’t a challenge, who is?
So in that sense, what the Golden State Warriors did to coach Gregg Popovich & Co. on Monday night at Oracle Arena can only mean so much. “They probably aren’t going to play that poorly ever again against us, but some of it was us, too, causing those mistakes, and I was thrilled with the effort”.
The Warriors, with a win against Dallas, would tie them for the second-longest home winning streak in the regular season at 40 games. The Spurs and Warriors play three more times this season. It was the Warriors who stole the headlines and the plaudits. These are not the same Warriors whom the Spurs could execute into submission.
Two teams with a combined highest-winning percentage in NBA History to date was the marquee match-up of the year. In any case, a full-squad rumble will have to wait at least until March 19, when the Warriors play at San Antonio. And then they’re going to say [San Antonio] didn’t have Tim Duncan, when at the end of the day, none of that matters. “Their coaches have them right where they want them, really executing well”.
“The similarity is good balance between offense and defense and versatility”.
LaMarcus Aldridge was limited to just five points and three rebounds by Green. Curry. They don’t have an answer for the monster Curry has become. WHAT BOOKS SAY: “The Spurs have won three of the last four meetings including a 121-103 victory at home on January second”.
Point of fact: Though Myers and owner Joe Lacob are famous for their restless pursuit of new talent, the Warriors essentially sat out the trade and free-agent market last offseason.
It’s the defense that allows Curry to be this great offensively.
“Look, they’re proving that decision – the players are showing why that made some sense”.
“It distorts the whole chess board”, Kerr said of Curry’s shooting range. “Defensively, you have to commit so far out there, it creates angles for other guys”.
It was the most anticipated game of the month – the Spurs against the Golden State Warriors. Nothing worked, not even giving the assignment to Kawhi Leonard, the NBA’s reigning defensive player of the year.
“No, we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, obviously”, Curry said.
Monday, the Warriors took a small step in that direction.
There was a time when the Warriors would have a sense of awe playing the Spurs.
Meanwhile, the Spurs were stalled by 26 turnovers.
But the Warriors’ performance changed that line of thought. They continued to bother San Antonio limiting them to just 19 points in the quarter.
But if anything was lifeless on this evening in Oakland, it was the Spurs.
