Pre-dawn attack in Valley claims 2 soldiers, 1 cop
Today’s attack came one day after the killing of five militants in the Indian army during a foiled infiltration bid near the Line of Control from the Pakistani side to Indian territories.
Unconfirmed reports said Singh was driving an ambulance carrying a supply of tear smoke shells and riot-gears to Baramulla. Two policemen accompanying Singh were injured in the ambush.
More than 60 civilians have been killed in clashes between protesters and security forces, and thousands more injured in the worst violence to hit the Himalayan region since 2010.
He added that Deputy Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen Saifullah Khalid has directed the squad to “intensify the attacks on security establishments”. But, this is the first time since the killing of terrorist Burhan Wani that an army convoy was attacked in any part of the Valley.
“During the intervening night of August 16 and August 17, militants fired on an army convoy near a petrol pump at Khoja Bagh, Baramulla”.
Earlier on Tuesday night, the terrorist attacked the Kakapora police station in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, injuring five police personnel.
On Monday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in an Independence Day address he was getting messages of support from people in Pakistan’s Baluchistan province, where separatists are fighting the state.
The army says 56 militants managed to cross into Kashmir up to June this year, compared with 36 in 2015. The Intelligence officer said almost 60 terrorists have infiltrated into the Valley from across POK in the last couple of weeks; this, despite the Army taking them on at several places along the LoC and even pushing them back with heavy firing and killing many of them.
