Pre-Order Date for Oculus Ready PCs and Rift Bundles Revealed
And that’s before you factor in the cost of a PC that’s powerful enough to run it. Fortunately, you won’t have to do that math yourself, or mess up and wind up with a PC that’s just not quite powerful enough. Don’t worry: you can get a discounted Oculus Ready PC; you’ll see offer codes appear on your order status page on February 16, according to Oculus VR.
The Oculus Ready PC bundles aren’t exactly cheap – you’re paying $1,500 for the whole bundle, regardless of which of the five Oculus-certified PCs you choose.
The bundles will be available for pre-order through Amazon, Best Buy and the Microsoft Store.
When the US9 Oculus Rift went up for pre-order last month, the company mentioned that you’d be able to buy Rift + PC bundles starting at $1,499. That is to say, this should be everything you need to use an Oculus, and only what you need to use an Oculus.
The bundles – which come from ASUS, Alienware and Dell – will include an Oculus Rift, a sensor, an Xbox One controller and two free games, including Lucky’s Tale and EVE:Valkyrie Founder’s Pack. And that’s why Oculus has partnered with a few different companies to ship “Oculus Ready PCs”. Pre-orders will kick off February 16 at 11 a.m. EST.
At the high end of the line, the Oculus Ready Alienware Area 51 has an Nvidia GTX 980, 16GB of RAM, and an i7 processor for a whopping $2,549 MSRP (and that’s before you purchase the Rift). An Intel i5-6400 seems to be the CPU of choice, and NVIDIA’s GTX 970 is the most popular GPU.
Asus is offering the G11CD for $949.
Oculus/Tech InsiderFacebook-owned Oculus VR will finally launch its first virtual reality headset, the Oculus Rift, on March 28.
