Precious moment: See the preemie twins who keep holding hands
New mom Anthea Jackson-Rushford shared this video on January 13 of Kristiana and Kristian being cradled by their father.
Photos and videos of newborn twins holding each others’ hands have gone viral since their mother posted them to Facebook.
“Amazing!!! Needs to go viral!!!”
Premature twins Kristian and Kristiana have been melting the hearts of the internet this week. The couple’s son and daughter were born on January 3 at 28 weeks and 1 day, making them about 11 weeks premature. “Weighed in at just under a kilo each”, she added.
“Both my angels holding hands again as if they were born to”, Jackson-Rushford wrote on Facebook.
“As you can clearly see, they can’t stop holding hands!!” she wrote. She said Kristiana was often holding her brother Kristian’s hand, to be protective of her little sibling. Best feeling in the world being a mum.
Doctors generally consider 37 weeks normal for twins, compared with 40 weeks full-term for single babies.
Skin to skin cuddling, like their father is doing in the footage, is known as kangaroo care and has been shown to boost premature babies’ health and wellbeing.
