Pregnant wife of Indianapolis pastor dies after being shot during home invasion
Police in Indianapolis believe a man captured on surveillance footage near the home where a pastor’s pregnant wife was shot Tuesday is responsible for her death.
Blackburn was pronounced dead Wednesday after being on life support since the shooting Tuesday morning, the coroner’s office said.
Indianapolis police investigators have released very few details about the murder, but did not that the pastor has been ruled out as a suspect.
“Amanda and I dropped into this city not knowing where we were gonna live, what we were gonna do, and we just prayed that God would guide us every step of the way”, Davey Blackburn said in a promotional video for the church.
Her husband, Davey Blackburn, has said that “as deeply as I am hurting, I am hopeful and confident that good things will come of this”.
The Blackburns had moved from SC in 2012 to in to begin the Resonate Church.
His father, David Blackburn, was Family Pastor at First Wesleyan Church from 2003-2007 in Tuscaloosa. The suspect entered the Blackburn home after burglarizing another home two doors down, police said.
“We know the person caught on camera standing outside the home is the one who murdered Amanda”, Indianapolis police Major Eric Hinch said. They have a young son and Blackburn was 12 weeks pregnant with their second child at the time of this incident, WXIN reports.
Police are holding a press conference on Friday and said more information would hopefully be released at that time, but much of the information they have is only known by the robber and they do not want that released yet. “I hold firm to the belief that God is still good, that He takes our tragedy and turns it into triumph, and that the best is truly yet to come”, he wrote. All the money give while go directly to expenses and helping Blackburn and his son with the next steps.
A month ago, Amanda was on stage, telling the Resonate Church congregation how she met her husband.
Witnesses told police they heard gunshots at around 6:45 a.m., and later saw a dark SUV speeding away from the scene.
According to sources within IMPD, detectives believe Davey Blackburn’s timeline is accurate.
If you would like to help support the Blackburn family, they are asking that donations be made here.
Investigators are trying to determine if a burglary that happened two houses down on the same day and around the same time as Amanda’s attack are connected.
