Premier League champs Leicester give Jamie Vardy four-year contract extension
“A show of loyalty from Jamie Vardy and a show of ambition from Leicester is to be applauded”.
England striker Jamie Vardy is to end weeks of speculation over his club future by committing to a new deal with Leicester City.
It looked like the 29-year-old would be tempted away from Leicester by the bright lights of London after Arsenal agreed to meet his release clause of £20m.
However, after Jamie Vardy signed a new four-year deal with Leicester and hence snubbed Arsenal, the reports linking the Gooners with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s influential striker have increased beyond measure.
“Both parties hope this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future”, a club statement said. Ultimately, the lure of Champions League football should mean the Foxes can sign other quality players too. The Foxes have already had two bids turned down by Watford – the last was for £25m – and are likely to return with an improved offer.
“I have just won the league and I will be playing in the Champions League next year – I’m happy here”, Vardy said in May. The England global has opted to stay with the Midlands club after his goals played a major role in the club’s remarkable Premier League title success of last season and will be rewarded with an improved deal.
He managed to score an astounding 24 goals while providing six assists for Leicester City last season, which is why he became one of the most sought after strikers this season.
“He has played some fabulous football in a team that has catered to his strengths which has probably propelled him to the position he is in right now”.
In start contrast, whatever happens next season, even if he doesn’t score a single goal, Vardy will be idolised at the King Power.
