Premier League hit back at BBC’s Price of Football study after research
Despite their lowest-priced ticket being a reasonable £27, Arsenal charge the most for a single, standard entry.
Eleven clubs in the Premier League raised the price of their cheapest tickets – it now averages £30.68, up from £28.80 last season.
Both Arsenal’s top end season ticket, which costs £2,013, and entry level season ticket, which costs £1,014, are the most expensive in the top flight, although Gunners fans benefit from seven cup matches as part of that price.
The most expensive adult tickets at St James’ Park cost £45, which is below the league average of £57.
The average pie costs £3.35, up nearly two per cent in price, while a cup of tea is falling in value, down to £2.09 on average.
Derby County, Reading and Huddersfield’s £10 match day ticket is the cheapest in the top five leagues in England – only matched by Southport in the Conference.
The Owls’ most expensive tickets set fans back £52 a pop – the same price as the cheapest tickets at Chelsea.
Non-league Kidderminster sell the most expensive pie for £4.50 and Birmingham charge the most for a cup of tea – £2.90.
Fans can also buy one-off match day tickets at Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen for £11.19 and Borussia Dortmund for £11.94.
Leicester City are top of the Premier League when it comes to providing the cheapest ticket for fans.
While a season ticket costs just £104.48 at Bayern and an even cheaper £73.88 at European champions Barcelona (though a £130 membership fee is also required), the lowest priced season ticket in the Premier League is Stoke’s at £294. This is less than England’s Championship and League One. This is £9 less than the least expensive ticket at Southend United, which costs £24.
Only Chelsea charge more for their cheapest tickets – £52.
The average adult replica football shirt in the United Kingdom is now £42.18.
“The BBC survey grid states that an early bird season ticket is “not applicable” whereas the majority of our adult season ticket holders purchase at the lower of those two prices”.
The average price of the cheapest match-day ticket in Scottish football’s top flight now costs £20.17 on average after a 1.2% fall in price.
The average prices in all four ticket categories we surveyed in WSL 1 have gone up, but the women’s game as a whole worked out cheapest in our study.
The study does not, however, include the full complement of Premier League sides.

Barcelona’s shirt is £89.55 – the most expensive out of the 227 teams in the study.

The 20 Premier League clubs brought out 50 strips this season, with 10 clubs putting new third strips on sale. A season-long spot at the Emirates will cost you, at least, £1,014.
Typically, the further down the league pyramid a club is, the lower its ticket prices.
