Prescott goes out a victor as Mississippi State belks NC State
Prescott was phenomenal in this game, throwing for 380 yards and four touchdowns.
Prescott has a couple of proven targets led by Fred Ross and De’Runnya Wilson.
Lamar Jackson ran for a career-high and Music City Bowl-record 226 yards and two touchdowns and threw for two more scores to help Louisville beat Texas A&M 27-21.
Prescott’s composure impressed Doeren the most.
The Bulldogs have been in Charlotte for a week and have approached the game in a businesslike fashion.
Passing for 3,793 yards and 29 touchdowns and leading the team with 588 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns this season, he led MSU to a 9-4 record. As a result, Mullen’s offense averages just 140.3 yards on the ground per contest which puts them just 96th nationally. With 40 games spread out over the next two weeks there is plenty of opportunity to add a little bonus to your holiday gift pile. Of course those numbers are against SEC competition, but that’s still not a very daunting group against the pass or the run.
Attendance and economic impact numbers aren’t in yet for this year’s Belk Bowl, but the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority said last year’s Belk Bowl had more than $16 million in economic impact for the area. The picks were notable because Brissett had only thrown two interceptions all season.
Brissett only averages 10.8 yards per completion, so the Wolfpack aren’t really known for the big play through the air. The second came shortly thereafter, on a fantastic speed rush by Jaylen Samuels, who got a great block on the edge and housed it from 47-yards out.
What the win means for Mississippi State: Nick Saban wasn’t 100 percent accurate when he lamented on Wednesday how we’ve entered an era where it’s playoff-or-bust when determining whether a season was successful or not. North Carolina allows 332.5 yards and 23.8 points per game in defense.
The Wolfpack defense has had its moments, but its been gashed against the toughest opponents.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are taking on the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the Belk Bowl. Seniors Mike Rose (defensive end), Juston Burris (cornerback) and Hakim Jones (safety) depart but there will be plenty of experience back. He just loves Dak Prescott.
The bad weather foretold what a miserable day this was going to be for the Wolfpack. Mississippi State is -5 in turnover margin this season.
NC State would get two unanswered touchdowns to make a game of it in the second quarter, but that was until Prescott did what he’s done throughout his career and led the Bulldogs to 10 unanswered points to close the half and take a 31-14 lead into halftime. He played as a redshirt freshman and a sophomore, but took over as a starter as a junior during the 2014 season.
