Presidency (REASON): Why Donald Trump now Supports President Buhari
President Buhari said God would judge past leaders who misgoverned the country.
Yari, who is also the Zamfara State Governor, said this at the end of a two-day summit organised by the Senate Ad hoc Committee on Review of Current Security Infrastructure in Nigeria. The latest iteration of his travel ban is now being considered by the Supreme Court.
In a recent interview with the Voice of America, which is part of his trip to the United States, the president gave what he believed was a clarification of his earlier comments.
He declined to say how numerous migrants should be admitted to the US but bemoaned the nation’s immigration laws as “the worst”.
It will be recalled that former President Olusegun Obasanjo released a bomb shell letter were he urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019.
With Nigeria nowhere close to fully defeating Boko Haram despite government claims of having “crushed” the extremists, Buhari is expected to seek further USA military assistance.
In the letter, Obasanjo advised Buhari against seeking re-election, saying doing so would amount to overstretching the tolerance level of Nigerians. The only reason Buhari got into the White House was because of the $490 million he paid up front for the Tucano jets.
Nigeria has one of the largest economies, and the Buhari administration has been trying to maintain this status with all the energy they can muster.
“We realised, rather belatedly that we ought to have been investing in agriculture”.
He also claimed that the Islamic State has “virtually gone” from Nigeria, though addressing a growing Boko Haram problem.
Trump and Buhari immediately made remarks before going into lunch session where they are expected to discuss a wide range of issues.
“We have a very big trade deal we’re working on for military equipment, helicopters and the like”, Trump added.
Buhari thanked the USA for its commitment to fighting terrorism and says US action has helped his country a lot. Mass abductions of schoolgirls brought Boko Haram global notoriety and one faction has declared allegiance to the Islamic State group.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday arrive the White House for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. Matters of focus were security and economic issues. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country with nearly 200 million people, is the largest economy on the continent and the leading crude oil exporter.
He said: “The media can count on us to keep our words, but we also want to be fairly reported”.
CAN, in its reaction, said Trump hit the nail on its head when he informed Buhari that Christians were being killed in Nigeria, noting that the American leader told the Nigerian government the right thing.
