President Mukherjee extends good wishes to Uganda on I-Day
This will be the first visit by any Indian President to Jordan in the last 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Mukherjee is slated to deliver an address at a special Knesset plenary session.
“India has been at the forefront of academic cooperation with the Palestinians and we receive a lot of help from the Indian government in the field of education”, he added. After a week, President has come to share his views about the issue and also about the Indian civilization.
The book has been edited by journalist Prabhu Chawla and produced by the senior editorial team of the New Indian Express as a tribute to the President and in celebration of his personality as a human being, eminent political leader and as the occupant of the highest office in the country.
Mukherjee’s visit to Israel is being seen as a precursor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit sometime in the future.
“I also agree that we must go back to the essence of our respective faiths and creeds”, said the President, while answering a question about Jordan’s role in the global fight against the Islamic State. In an interview to Arabic daily “Al Ghad” ahead of his visit to Jordan, Mukherjee underlined the need to “amplify the voice of moderation”.
Mukherjee will hold talks with his Israeli counterpart Reuven Rivlin and meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as the speaker of the Knesset Yuli-Yoel Edelstein. Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had visited Jordan in 1988. However, Mukherjee will not visit the Hamas-controlled Gaza city. We must amplify the voice of moderation.
The External Affairs Ministry said in a statement: “During the visit, India will augment its efforts to support the capacity building initiatives of Palestine”.
Asserting that India strongly rejects religious fundamentalism and extremism as well as terrorism in all forms and manifestations, President Mukherjee said that given the commonality of security concerns of both India and Jordan, New Delhi looks forward to further strengthening cooperation in the area of security and counter terrorism.
