President Obama and his girls catch ‘Hamilton’ on Broadway
The Obama administration hasn’t been totally kind to Hamilton: it recently proposed phasing the nation’s first treasury secretary off the bill and replacing him with a woman.
Hamilton’s life and death are the subject of a riveting new musical – Hamilton – by writer, actor and all-around theater genius Lin-Manuel Miranda, who stars as Hamilton.
The President would not be seeing Miranda performing in today’s matinee show, as the title role was being performed by understudy Javier Muñoz, who made the annoucement earlier via his Facebook page. He will head back to New York on Tuesday for a fundraiser and an appearance on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart.
The Broadway run has already sold more than $25 million in tickets, though the leader of the free world was able to score a seat.
The musical has attracted a stream of political heavyweights, eager to see a predecessor portrayed on stage. Just last week, Michelle and the girls attended KINKY BOOTS and not only stayed through the end of the bows to take it all in, but the First Lady herself even left a sweet note for the cast.
“Dick Cheney attended the show tonight”, Miranda wrote. “He’s the OTHER vice president who shot a friend while in office”.
This won’t be Obama’s first interaction with “Hamilton”.
It was only a matter of time before President Obama caught a showing of “Hamilton”, the hip-hop musical about one of the nation’s Founding Fathers. And here’s President Obama applauding you.
