President Obama campaigns in Ann Arbor for Hillary Clinton
Earlier in the day, Obama was in Ann Arbor, Michigan – another sign of how seriously Democrats are taking the state.
The president may be right: Despite no Republican presidential nominee winning MI since George H.W. Bush in 1988, polls, including those done for the Free Press, show Clinton with no more than a narrow edge in the state, as Trump – a businessman, casino developer and reality TV show star – has cut into an earlier lead by consolidating support among previously skeptical Republicans.
The rally was held at the Osceola County Stadium at Osceola Heritage Park near Kissimmee days before the presidential election. For free tickets, go here.
Clinton has been “very deliberate in the last couple weeks about not just wanting to encourage people to reject Donald Trump and Trumpism, but to affirmatively give them something to vote for, a positive vision”, Fallon said. MI has 16 of them, and the race has tightened in what had been considered safe territory for Clinton.
The presence of both Obamas and Clintons smooths out a political trajectory dating to 1992, when Bill was first elected, that could have been derailed when Obama took office.
Clinton hosted her final campaign rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, just feet away from where the Founding Fathers penned the Declaration of Independence.
Four years ago, Obama’s re-election campaign was somewhat optimistic, a little naïve about his views regarding his Republican opponents, suggesting they need to be more cooperative in his second term.
“We have incredible debates all over America that shouldn’t exist between people in different racial groups because they don’t trust law enforcement anymore”, he continued. “The next president of the United States, Hillary Clinton!”.
“I have to say, because this is going to be my last big event. Yes”. In October, Clinton had an 11-point lead in that poll.
Donald Trump will win Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and three out of five Electoral College votes in Nebraska, CNN projects, while Hillary Clinton will win both candidates’ home state of NY. A tightening race in New Hampshire prompted the Clinton campaign to schedule an election-eve appearance there in an attempt to shore up support among white, college-educated voters.
Late into the night, Wisconsin looked grim for Clinton, and even MI, in which Obama had bragged of bailing out the auto industry during an emergency campaign stop Monday in Ann Arbor, was in danger. “I just want to see a glimpse of him and the First Lady”, said Valerie Covington, 54, wearing a heavy black coat.
