President Obama Has a Different Job Than President Hollande
Moscow could avoid bombing “healthy” opposition groups.
Hollande is on a diplomatic offensive to build a common front against the militant Islamist group that has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Paris on November 13 that killed 130 people.
Obama dismissed Russian Federation and Iran, backers of Syrian President Bashar Assad, as a “coalition of two”, compared to the 65-nation bloc that’s focused on defeating the Islamic State. However, Hollande said he and Obama made an agreement to “scale up our strikes both in Syria and in Iraq to broaden our scope to strengthen our intelligence sharing regarding the targets”.
Others, including many Democrats, fear it could be the beginning of a slide toward a much larger engagement, though to date Obama has largely stuck to getting other countries to offer more assistance as part of the 65-country coalition fighting ISIS.
Putin also said Russian Federation would keep cooperating with the United States and its partners to fight Islamic State in Syria, but that cooperation will be in jeopardy if there are any repeats of the shooting down of the jet.
President Barack Obama and French President Francois Hollande met this Tuesday and, like expected, one of the main topics they have discussed is the fight against terrorist organization Islamic State.
Following his meeting with the French president, Obama said Russian cooperation in the fight against IS would be “enormously helpful”. He said al-Assad can not play a role as the country goes ahead.
There has been a tense stand-off between Russia and Turkey since the Turkish airforce downed a Russian Sukhoi jet over Syria earlier this week.
“But Russian Federation must make a strategic shift” he said, Mr. Hollande by his side at the White House, after a meeting in which they chose to “broaden and intensify strikes” against IS targets.
“Nearly four centuries after the Mayflower set sail, the world is still full of pilgrims – men and women who want nothing more than the chance for a safer, better future for themselves and their families”, Obama said in his address. “Russian Federation right now is a coalition of two – Iran and Russian Federation supporting Assad”. “Change your heading south immediately”, the tape said.
“We have a resolution from the Security Council, we must take action against Daesh”, said Mr Hollande, using another name for ISIS.
The suspected ringleader of the deadly Paris attacks and an accomplice planned to carry out a suicide attack on the city’s La Defense business district the following week, the chief prosecutor said Tuesday.
But while Milbank complained about Obama’s more measured response to the issues, fellow Washington Post columnist David Ignatius on Wednesday’s “Morning Joe” program on MSNBC said that he had a different reaction entirely to Obama’s appearance, calling it “entirely appropriate”.
