President Obama meets Senator Sanders at White House
“We both received the same information, and we both arrived at different conclusions”, Sanders said after meeting in the Oval Office with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. In the Quinnipiac poll, Sanders leads Clinton by a wide margin among younger voters 78% of likely Democratic caucus participants between the ages of 18 and 44 back Sanders, compared with 21% who support Clinton.
The race between Clinton and Sanders, 74, has tightened in recent weeks, and polls show the two in a statistical dead heat for the Iowa caucus on February 1. “I love debates. I think they are a way to inform the American people of our positions and our differences”.
Earlier this week in an interview published in Politico, Obama heaped praise on Clinton, whom he ran against and then appointed secretary of state. “And I think the (Democratic National Committee) and the campaigns should be able to work this out”. Sanders says Clinton is only for having more debates because the poll numbers have tightened up.
Until now, Clinton’s campaign had been silent on the number of debates.
So why is Sanders now standing in the way of a final New Hampshire debate?
Clinton also leads over Sanders among female voters by 50 percent to 38 percent – but the spread is not as large as her 61 percent to 27 percent advantage last month.
As for Obama’s opinions about Sanders, he said that whatever he’s doing is “obviously working”. The President qualified his remarks about each Democratic candidate by saying that he knew Hillary Clinton better because she had served in his administration. In the Wednesday statement, Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver pinned the blame on Clinton, slamming the former secretary of state for remaining silent despite Sanders and O’Malley’s previous demand for more prime-time debates.
As for big banks, “me and my opponents agree and are clear on this: we are not going to let Wall Street wreck Main Street again”, Clinton added. Weaver said none of the debates could be held on a Friday, Saturday or holiday weekend and the three Democratic candidates must be invited.
