President Obama Rejects Keystone XL Pipeline To Protect Planet
“President Obama today demonstrated that he cares more about kowtowing to green-collar elitists than he does about creating desperately needed, family-supporting, blue-collar jobs”, O’Sullivan said in a statement Friday.
Environmental groups, which have turned Keystone into their signature issue, were ecstatic over the decision. President Obama and his supporters in Congress made a decision to oppose North American energy independence.
The once-obscure Keystone project became a political symbol amid broader clashes over energy, climate change and the economy. He went on to say the pipeline would not lower gas prices and it’s been steadily falling, about 77 cents over the past year. Since the company first proposed the 1,179-mile pipeline, the project has been studied, stalled, slammed and hyped – all amid intense political pressure from powerful interests on both sides of the debate.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was disappointed with the decision, but added it would not hinder relations between the two countries.
The proposed pipeline would have run from Canada to Nebraska and connected to other pipelines across the country. Obama accused Republicans of using “overinflated” rhetoric about the project. “We will review our options to potentially file a new application for border-crossing authority to ship our customer’s crude oil, and will now analyze the stated rationale for the denial”.
“The pipeline would not make a meaningful long-term contribution to our economy”.
October 15, 2010 – As the permit is reviewed, then Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the department is “inclined” to approve project.
After a stunningly long decision process dragged out over nearly his entire tenure, the President has rejected TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline application.
“I believe that ultimately the project will be approved based on the merits and strong support from the public”, Hoeven said.
The battle with TransCanada over the Keystone XL Pipeline has come to an end for the Obama Administration. Other actor crippled the economic case for the pipeline by driving oil prices down.
