President of Brady Campaign Calls for Sheriff Hanlin to Resign
The video suggested that both the 11 September attacks on the United States and the Sandy Hook shooting may have been part of a government conspiracy to take away people’s guns.
It doesn’t look like he will. He’s leaving that that to the Oregon medical examiner’s office. He in no way deserves this.
Social media lit up with cheers and scorn after his remarks.
A Roseburg resident and veteran named John tells Breitbart News exclusively that he considers the call for Hanlin to resign “a huge mistake for Mr. Hanlin and for Douglas County”.
Mr Hanlin wrote in a January 2013 letter to Joe Biden: “Gun control is NOT the answer to preventing heinous crimes like school shootings…”
And when a 22-year-old man stabbed and shot several students in California’s Santa Barbara County previous year, one of the victims’ fathers, who grew up hunting, went on every national TV station that invited him and begged for stricter gun laws.
Hanlin wrote the letter after the shooting at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school that left six staff members dead in addition to the children. “Any actions against, or in disregard for our U.S. Constitution and 2nd Amendment rights by the current administration would be irresponsible and an indisputable insult to the American people“.
Gov. Kate Brown said it’s up to local voters to decide on whether the sheriff should be in his job.
“He is charged with leading an unbiased investigation into what happened and what can be done to prevent future tragedies”, Gross said.
Obama’s post-Sandy Hook gun control push later died in Congress. The Oregonian said the campaign pointed to his “extremist” views on gun rights.
A prominent gun control advocate is calling for the resignation of the Oregon sheriff leading the investigation into the recent shooting who he labeled a pro-gun “conspiracy theorist”.
Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said in a statement Tuesday that Hanlin is incapable of investigating last week’s community college shooting.
