President Trump Calls on Congress to Repeal and Replace Obamacare
In remarks at a press preview of his budget priorities on Monday, President Donald Trump teased the idea that, after working with his team and in consultation with Republican governors, he is almost ready to unveil his plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Mr Trump and Republicans have vowed to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, former President Barack Obama’s signature piece of domestic policy, but have not released details yet. “Action is not a choice”.
“President Trump and Vice President Pence were very clear that they will work toward a clear transition”, said Dan Hilferty, CEO of Independence Blue Cross.
Americans were split on whether people should be required to buy health insurance (45 percent in favor, 50 percent opposed). Democratic Congresswoman Val Demings held a town hall in Orlando Sunday. Democrats and some Republicans have called for Trump-appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself in the probe.
Obamacare has been credited with expanding health coverage to 20 million Americans in the past six years.
“Obamacare has been a disaster and it’s only getting worse”, Trump said.
Trump regularly has said Obamacare is a failure that must be repealed and replaced.

“Let’s get beyond rhetoric”, he added. “He’s maybe the only person in this country who doesn’t know how complicated it is to provide health care for the American people”.
Trump indicated that there is an alternative to Obamacare being discussed. And costs will come down and [inaudible] to health care will go up very, very substantially.
But Trump did not say how the party can resolve a range of obstacles on dismantling the current health care system – including how the GOP would pay for their new plan.
