President Trump Vows to Bring Down Prescription Drug Costs
To the editor: Did any of The Times reporters writing about President Trump’s address to Congress Tuesday actually listen to the speech or read the transcript in its entirety?
This was hailed as a dramatic shift in policy, and welcomed by many of his critics.
Trump has called out several publications for what he calls “fake news” and recently had them shut out of a press briefing.
“Let me correct that”, O’Reilly said. “And a new surge of optimism is placing impossible dreams firmly within our grasp”.
In a rare show of self-criticism, Mr Trump told “Fox and Friends” that “maybe it’s my fault” the administration’s goals on immigration may not have been communicated effectively. A ban on arrivals from seven mostly Muslim nations provoked nationwide demonstrations before being overturned by the courts.
U.S. president Donald Trump is creating a new government office with the very specific objective of serving American victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants.
Observers said it struck a less confrontational, nearly presidential, tone for the first time.
Stuart Rothenberg, a Washington analyst, said the gentler style will have been welcomed by Republicans but will do little to convince Mr Trump’s opponents.
“It’s all in the details”. The speech will be followed by a Democratic response, given by former Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, according to Vox. On substance, the address that Mr. Trump gave was much like many of his earlier speeches. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting’.
Being his biggest speech since the inauguration, the Commander-in-Chief has a ton to of things to address after a tumultuous month in office.
On Tuesday, Trump reached out to the widow of Navy SEAL Ryan Owens, who died in the recent Yemen attack, even loosely citing the Bible verse John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”.
Trump’s proposal to slash funding for the State Department and foreign aid faces stiff opposition in Congress, not just from Democrats, but also from many fellow Republicans. He also renewed his vow to secure the border – but he skipped his familiar mantra about building a big, handsome wall along the southern border and making Mexico pay for it. Mr Trump said Republicans and Democrats could work together towards immigration reform as long as it focused on improving jobs and wages, and strengthening the USA security. Republicans stand and applaud while Democrats sit, and vice versa.
Comprehensive immigration reform eluded his two predecessors because of deep divisions within Congress and among Americans over the issue.
