Presidential contenders fight for minority voters in SC
A new poll released Friday shows that Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has a sizable lead in SC coming off his win in New Hampshire.
US Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders raises a fist as he speaks at his caucus night rally Des Moines, Iowa, February 1, 2016.
“The people of New Hampshire have sent a profound message to the political establishment, to the economic establishment and by the way, to the media establishment”, he said.
The real estate mogul has repeatedly taunted his rivals, saying those who wage war against him end up plunging in polls.
There hasn’t been a contested national convention since 1976, yet Republican National Committee officials have already had preliminary discussions about the possibility of no candidate securing a majority of delegates in the state-by-state primary contests.
For states beyond New Hampshire, in which Republican voters tend to be more conservative, how Kasich would succeed in attracting those voters remained unknown.
“I think more and more this is becoming a two man race between me and Donald Trump”, Cruz explained.
The Republican Party in SC is a lot like the party writ large. Marco Rubio on the contentious issue of illegal immigration – featuring people at a faux “self help” session lamenting their past support of the Florida senator. Ted Cruz, who even Republicans fear would be weak general election candidates.
“I don’t need to start these fights, but if someone starts one in the future we’re going to have to point out the differences in our records in a sharper way”, Rubio said. After a strong second place showing in New Hampshire, the poll found that his support in sc had tripled, from 3 percent to 9 percent. The senator ate a stack of blueberry pancakes – soft food, he said, because he cracked a molar the night before on a flight back to Washington, D.C.
On the Democrat side, right before the primary it suddenly looked like Barack Obama had caught up to and overtaken Hillary Clinton, but then when the votes came in, Hillary Clinton still won.
On Tuesday, establishment-minded Republicans from New Hampshire expressed a mix of frustration and shame that it was their state that delivered Trump’s first victory.
Should Mr Trump win in SC, it could grow exceedingly hard for his rivals to slow his momentum as the race moves into conservative states across the south in the next few weeks.
Sanders needed to win big if he had any chance at all of winning his party’s nomination, because New Hampshire played to all of his strengths.
